MOUNT VERNON—In preparation for the upcoming semester, many members of the community joined with the faculty, staff and students of BPC to beautify the Mount Vernon campus Saturday, July 16. Dr. Billy Puckett, Director of Church Relations, headed up the project to help give the campus a facelift before students return in the fall. All in all, over 50 people came out to trim hedges, paint, spray weeds, plant flowers, mow grass, and cut down limbs. In a short five hours, the team accomplished an impressive list of tasks and their progress was evident all across campus.

“Several of our best Baron students came out to work. Sierra Monday, Abbi Beth Paulk and Sarah Bullard covered a lot of ground while improving campus and making it ready to receive our fall students. The Mount Vernon City Council, Mayor Joey Fountain and team, and Judge Gary Braddy and his crew accomplished most of the heavy lifting as we came together to make Brewton-Parker College a wonderful place for our young people to grow. Several of our trustees, including Derward Poole and Scott Rudd, rolled up their sleeves and demonstrated a servant’s heart and great leadership,” Puckett stated. Additionally, Puckett wanted to thank the following churches: First Baptist Mount Vernon, Better Together Ministries, and Vidalia Presbyterian. Lunch for the volunteers was provided by Chartwells.

In addition to the Saturday cleanup day, volunteers from across the state have been busy with dorm renovations throughout the campus this summer. Dorms are getting new roofs, carpet, tile, paint fixtures and furniture. President Echols and the BPC family would like to thank everyone for their hard work in getting the campus ready for the upcoming academic year.
